A Place of Learning

St. John Fisher Catholic High School  in Harrogate is a fully inclusive, comprehensive school.

We are proud of the breadth of our academic and vocational curriculum, and are continually developing our programmes to support the diverse needs, aptitudes and abilities of our students.

Excellent Results

The school achieves excellent outcomes at GCSE.  In the last few years, over 80% of our students achieve the key indicator of 5 or more good GCSEs with English and mathematics.  Virtually all of our students achieve the level 1 qualification of 5 GCSEs or its equivalent and more than a third of all GCSE grades are at A/A*

A wide range of options

Between Years 7 and 11, all students study core subjects: English, mathematics, science, religious education, ICT and PE.  Between Years 9 and 11, 80% of students follow a traditional curriculum to GCSE that includes a modern language, geography and/or history; our students are achieving well in the English Baccalaureate qualification.  Nearly half our students study separate sciences.  To complement core subjects, students can also choose from GCSE courses that include business, humanities, design and technology, media, art, dance, drama and music and PE.

St John Fisher thrives on community engagement and the  links we have established with local colleges, businesses and training environments enable some of our Year 10-11 students to follow vocational programmes or a personalised, work-related curriculum combined with GCSEs.

At the age of 16, the vast majority of students progress into our Associated Sixth Form and then go on to the best universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Other students progress to meaningful further education, training or employment. Constantly looking to the future,  we place an emphasis on the continuing professional development of our staff to improve learning.  We work in partnership with Leeds Trinity University College to offer dynamic and supportive teacher training placements.

Every child really does matter at our school. For learners with particular needs or vulnerabilities, for gifted and talented students, for pupils with all abilities and aptitudes, we are committed to help and support everyone. Our aim is for each and every student to achieve their full potential while they are here, and leave us, educated for life.

Take a VIRTUAL TOUR of our school.
