Catch Up Funding Statement

Catch Up Funding Statement

We received £5,294 funding in 2017 for Year 7 catch up funding. This was spent on purchasing the Accelerated Reader scheme to support English at a cost of £2,096 and to partly fund (£3,198) the salary of a high level teaching assistant in maths.

In maths, 25 students attended a 30 minute session once every two weeks working in small groups. The intervention aimed to develop students’ ability to interpret questions and develop their problem solving skills. An additional group also received registration intervention for basic numeracy skills. The impact was that, of the 25 students who attended the intervention, 8 of the students made better than expected progress and 10 of the students made expected progress throughout the year.

In English, 42 students were identified as requiring catch up on either the SPaG or Reading or both aspects at KS2. All of these students took part in the Accelerated Reader scheme where their reading progress was closely monitored. Additionally, 30 students attended weekly 30-minute revision sessions for an 8 week intervention period. This intervention was delivered in small groups to students who shared specific targets for development. The impact was that, of the 42 students identified as requiring catch up intervention, 28 had made expected progress and had reached the expected national standard by the end of year 7.
