Departmental Aims
The English Department at St. John Fisher has a shared desire to both raise achievement and to encourage personal growth through an engaging and challenging curriculum. We view English as being vital to the social, cultural and intellectual development required to ensure that students leave school prepared for the increasingly complex 21st century.

Within the department we apply a growth mindset approach to  encourage students to constantly strive to improve. The department aims to personalise its curriculum for individual learners aKS3 img2nd promotes active learning strategies to improve engagement in the subject area.

The department’s vision is to produce articulate, fluent, effective and confident speakers and effective and active listeners who can write with confidence, flair and precision. Through a wide range of enrichment such as author visits, theatre trips, writing clubs and trips we hope that students leave us as life-long readers with an appreciation for the written word. We are also aware of the important role played by ICT and media and encourage students to become critical readers of 21st century media.
