The St John Fisher U16 Girls Football team were crowned North Yorkshire Champions at Bootham Crescent on Friday, after a convincing 4-0 win against Rossett High School.
Their performance typified their season, with a passionate and professional display, filled with fluid attacking football.
Captain, Olivia Cook, led the side to victory with a dominant performance in the midfield alongside Anna Broadhurst, creating numerous chances for the attacking line of Charlotte Rice, Molly Bridson and Lydia Lawson.
Molly Bridson encapsulated the supporters at Bootham Crescent, with her intricate skills and ruthless performance in front of goal, which enabled her to score a hattrick.
Charlotte Rice was a constant threat with her incessant delivery, which left the Rossett defence helpless. Winger, Jess Walker, profited from the first-class delivery when she volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from yet another Charlotte Rice assist.
The tireless efforts and infectious energy of Lydia Lawson and Teresa Pili pushed the Rossett backline deep into their own half, creating numerous opportunities for St John Fisher.
The defensive unit of Mary Windle, Hollie Higgins and Poppy Dunn were a force to be reckoned with, they eliminated any threat and collectively, they were a composed and robust unit, leaving goalkeeper, Christy Davidson with little to do and securing a clean sheet.
Since joining St John Fisher five years ago, these girls have featured in the County Cup Final every year, and have been crowned North Yorkshire Champions on four occasions, something that no other school has achieved.
Girls Football team manager, Miss Huegett said ‘I am extremely proud of these girls for what they have achieved today, I cannot express how much they deserve to be crowned Champions after such a passionate performance. They are a fantastic set of girls, who have faced many challenges but they have showed the resilience and character to overcome them. They are a true team and should be extremely proud of a remarkable achievement’.
