Y7 Trip to the Rose Theatre in York
Trip to the Rose Theatre in York
On Monday 16th June I was part of a large group of year seven students who travelled to York to see Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Rose Theatre. This is not just a normal venue, it is Europe’s first ever pop-up Shakespearean theatre. This may make it sound small but actually it can hold nearly a thousand people. It is inspired by the theatre where Shakespeare’s plays were first performed. It is designed with only half a roof to let in natural light and there are rows of benches and in front of the stage is a large area where people stand to watch the performance. We watched A Midsummer Night’s Dream which is a fantasy comedy and which had some very funny moments. I didn’t necessarily understand all the language but watching the actors perform the play helped to make the meaning clearer. We all enjoyed the experience and it helped us to understand the history of our language.
