Table Tennis Update

Fishers players did really well in the Closed Championships held at Rossett on Sunday 10 March.
There were quite a few players unable to play but those who entered played really well.

Sammy Kelly retained his U18 title with a convincing win. Even more noteworthy, he reached the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles defeating players he had not beaten before and in the semi-final had a 2-0 lead against the eventual champion, Deo Jones (who went on to win the final 3-0). Against all odds he reached the final of the Handicap Singles, going down to the player who had beaten Max Mills and Holly Shepherd on his way to the final, despite giving away a large number of points, Sammy pushed him all the way. Sammy also reached the final of the Mixed Doubles.

The final of the Handicap Doubles saw an all Fishers final, with Maciej Cwiklinski and Charlie Lockett and Gabriel Mead and Brook Sutton winning lots of close matches to reach the final. Maciej and Charlie were the champions in a close match.

Holly was the runner up in the U13 Singles against 2 boys, playing really well. She also played in the handicap singles and doubles with Max as her partner.

Gabriel, Brook, Maciej and Charlie also played in the Handicap Singles without reaching the latter stages, as did Holly and Max. Max lost the Over 70’s to the eventual winner.

Theo entered many events, some with Sammy, but being a little too old for the U13’s, did well in all his matches, taking games off very good players.

It was a really good day.
