U14 Girls’ Football Team Cup Success
Congratulations to the St John Fisher Under 14 Girls’ Football team who were crowned North Yorkshire Champions after a thrilling final contest against Archbishop Holgate.
The girls played some excellent football that was pleasing on the eye, dominating for large spells of the game. Despite the soaring temperatures, Natasha Cree, Ruby Watts, Rebecca Hugill and Robyn McKendrick were untouchable in the midfield, their combination play dictated the game and became something to admire.
Hattie Robson opened the scoring with a fantastic turn and half volley into the bottom corner. Therese Tolan grabbed the second after following up from Ruby’s strike that hit the crossbar. Robyn McKendrick and Natasha Cree’s goals were goal of the season contenders. Robyn’s ferocious strike came from a fantastic team move which saw her leather the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards out. Natasha Cree took inspiration from Robyn and following a similar team move, she struck the ball from all of 30 yards, firing high into the net and consequently lobbing the keeper.
The score line finished 4-2 to St. John Fisher with SJF conceding 2 goals in an uncharacteristically sloppy 10 minutes. However, SJF remained composed and finished the game strong.
This victory sees the girls retain the North Yorkshire Cup and ends the 2018-19 academic year on a high. This year, the team have been crowned Area & North Yorkshire Champions, 5-a-side County Champions across all ages, and finishing as one of the four best teams in England after reaching the semi-final of the National Cup.
Well done girls, you should be extremely proud. Thank you for all your efforts. Have a brilliant summer and let’s look to replicate that success next year!
