History
In History, we aim to educate for life by helping students to become active and responsible citizens through being inspired by past events, as well as heeding its warnings. We want our students to develop their understanding of how Britain has continuously developed as a culturally, religiously and ethnically diverse nation. Above all, we want our students to become articulate, well-rounded and active citizens. To ensure that students are aware of the links between the past and the present, we aim to deliver a curriculum which is rich and inclusive, to help students discover how British history links and interconnects with wider European and international history, which offers plenty of opportunities for cultural enrichment.
We aim for a knowledge rich curriculum by focussing on disciplinary knowledge, which allows students to make progress in dealing with substantive concepts such as power, religion, trade, and migration, which enables them to build their knowledge and skills over time. We encourage the achievement of this goal through the pursuit of excellence via challenging yet supportive academic rigour. We aim to ensure that our schemes of learning are based on recent historical scholarship and wider historical research, so that students are keenly aware of the links between the past and present. Historical literacy is at the heart of our subject.
